The Pharmacy Primer Program

To promote learning, review prerequisite content, adequately prepare students for the rigors of pharmacy school, and encourage academic success, the California Northstate College of Pharmacy developed and implemented the Pharmacy Primer Program in the summer of 2018. Since then, the Pharmacy Primer has become an annual tradition and was expanded during the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure that pre-matriculated students had adequate support not only for foundational sciences but also for mental and emotional health and wellness and resiliency.

The interdisciplinary Pharmacy Primer Program, offered to all prematriculated Pharm.D. students is a non-mandatory, tuition-free, two-week-long program with select topical coverage. Key reviewed areas include foundational and pharmaceutical sciences, pharmaceutical calculations, information about career paths and postgraduate opportunities in pharmacy, professionalism, and peer-led discussions of strategies for success in pharmacy school.
