Residency Programs Overview
The PGY-1 Residency Programs at California Northstate University College of Pharmacy (CNUCOP) in association with Sutter Medical Center Sacramento (SMCS) will welcome two pharmacy practice residents and one community pharmacy practice resident in July of 2016. The pharmacy practice residency program has received full accreditation from the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) in April of 2013, while the community practice residency is anticipating accreditation during the 2016-17 academic year. These residency positions offer a unique opportunity to train in both clinical and academic pharmacy while providing accelerated growth for residents beyond that of entry level competence.
CNUCOP is located in Elk Grove, within the greater Sacramento County, about 14 miles from the California State Capital. Within a 30-mile radius there are four major hospital systems that collectively offer a vibrant community and a desirable job market for healthcare professionals. Additionally, surrounding areas such as Lake Tahoe, Napa Valley, and San Francisco Bay make Sacramento a desirable living location in Northern California. The CNUCOP residency program is in its fifth year. Each residency class has produced sound graduates that have gone on to complete PGY2 residencies and obtain a variety of positions in clinical pharmacy and academia (see “Past Residency Classes- Where are they now?”).
The CNUCOP PGY-1 Residency Programs are 12-month programs offering accelerated professional growth in clinical, academic, and community pharmacy. Major goals of the residency programs include:
